I Was Scared!!!

Hello again everybody!  The New Year started out with a bang of creativity for me.
I was moving and shaking.
I dug in the closet for tops that needed to be quilted.
I made a back for one ( previous post) and pin basted it together.
I had prepared tons of little tiny leaves and pieces for my Quilt Show BOM hand
applique' project.

Then BOOM!  The SICKNESS….the CRUD…..the PLAGUE hit!!!

I MISSED THE WHOLE LAST HALF OF JANUARY!!!
I was SOOOOO MAD!!
All my creative efforts came to a screeching halt!!!

WAH!
But all is well that ends well.  I am much better now (lingering cough).  I must
be better if I am thinking of re-arranging the furniture again! HA!!

I decided to put all the parts of my BOM up on the design wall.  I had not seen the parts all together.  As I finished each piece I just put them in the drawer with all the other parts.
oooouuuuu……aaahhhhhh
I.LIKE.

Then I decided to try my hand at soaking out the glue on one of the 4 main appliqué' blocks.
I filled a little tub
AND
THEN
I WAS SCARED!!!!
Yep, I was too scared to put it in the water.
My stomach hurt, I paced the floor holding the cute little block in my hands.
I'M SCARED!!!
I had never done this before!
BUT armed with the advice I researched online I became BRAVE!
I took a deep breath and threw it into the water fast as fast could be
before I changed my mind.

Hey, whatever was wrong with me?  See, it looks so happy floating around in
it's little bath and there weren't any pieces or parts that
floated to the top!

Sigh….what a relief!!!!

OK…..now I'm feeling brave and strong and ready to charge on!

I soaked the glue out of these too!!!  They are the cornerstones for the above top.

WOW, it was hard for me going into unknown uncharted waters, but I think it worked out ok!

I'M NOT SCARED ANYMORE……..

UNTIL I think about machine quilting that top I have all basted and ready to go.

my stomach hurts again

  1. So glad you talked about soaking the glue out of your fabric. I just went back and forth on this same subject and chickened out. Next time I'm soaking out the glue!!!

  2. I washed a bunch of blocks this weekend, and never gave it a thought. (Now I would) The part that terrifies me is trimming up the blocks to the same size. I live in fear of accidentally whacking off too much. LOVE the project you have on your design wall--it's wonderful in so many ways!

  5. How did you dry them or did I not read closely enough so early in the morning?
    Beautiful. Just Beautiful.

  6. That is how I felt when I put my first large applique project in the washer. Once the door locked there was no going back. All I could think about was those tiny stitches and all of that red fabric and the white background. It was a happy ending, and a confidence builder, thankfully.

  7. Glad you are feeling better. This quilt is going to be so awesome! When I first read your post, I thought you said you were going to soak the "blue" out of it. I thought that was rather strange. I was wondering how long you would have to soak it, and why you'd want to do that. Then I read it again. Duh!

  10. Glad you are feeling better! That was a long illness. I was scared when I saw that photo... thought you'd lost a block from that beautiful quilt. But no, it was just out for a bath. phew.

  12. Wow! Those are two amazing quilts and I understand your afraidness of getting them in the water. Glad it all worked out.

  13. Except for having the crud, I completely understand your fears. I start with cutting the fabric, afraid I will cut wrong and then not have enough. I do ok through the sewing/piecing part and the putting the blocks together but the top remains on the frame for days until I get the nerve to start quilting. Once that is done and the binding is on I then have to work up the courage to run the finished quilt through the washer and dryer. So far all has come out all right but the fear never leaves me. Have a great 2014, you are off to a good start.

  16. Glad you are feeling better - that crud is awful this year.

Good job in getting the block into the water - you deserve a gold star - or a pretty appliqued block - as a reward. You did great. I don't like those scary moments - and I've had a few myself.

I bet the quilting will come out fabulous - and speaking of stomachs hurting - I am off to do the taxes - makes me tense every year until I get right to the nice number in the refund.
