QUILTER DOWN!!! QUILTER DOWN!!!

HEY....I may be down, but I'm not out!!!! For some unknown reason something happened to MY BACK last Tuesday!!! OUCH!!! It's been a mystery, but maybe vigorously shaking out those 10 blankets on the back porch may have had something to do with it....???? I'm not able to do much, I'm soooo mad, there are tons of things I need to be doing!!!

SO........I made some of these!!!!!!!

The only place my back feels better is sitting in my sewing chair with the ole heating pad. Not a bad spot to perch whilst I try to mend!!

Out comes my crumb bin! It's time to make some fabric! And boy, do I ever have plenty of crumbs!!! I finally figured out I think the main reason I make quilts is so I can have scraps and crumbs to play with!!! HA! ( no seriously)!

And when I say 'crumbs' I mean CRUMBS!!! I know some of you may think I'm crazy, but I save anything that will hold a seam all the way around and still have 'some'......yes, I said 'some' of the fabric showing. OK ANNIEO stop rolling your eyes!!!

Those 'crumbs' can quickly become larger pieces like these. Before you know it, you have some nice made fabric of your own design!!! LOOK...LOOK how cute they all play together! I usually keep some of these blocks made up, they are great for potholders and such. I make them 8 1/2".

Before you know it you can have THIS!!! If I sew the blocks all together with no sashing this is what I would get. I. LIKE.
This piece of made fabric measures about 25" x 25". I am amazed that alllll those tiny pieces can turn into something that makes my heart sing so!!!!
Mr. Brown Dirt just stood at my design wall and was just mesmerized and in awe of those teeny tiny pieces that were mixed in! He likes it too!!!!

Check out my labels list on my sidebar under CRUMB THERAPY or MAKING FABRIC to read more about my CRUMB THERAPY/FABRIC MAKING.....I've enjoyed 'MAKING FABRIC' since 2008. I think you should try and make some too!!!

..........it's snowing!

  1. I think we have twin heating pads, and mine has permanent residence in the chair near my sewing machine.
I can't believe your crumb blocks! Wow.
You would shudder with horror at all the "crumbs" I throw away. I've never been bitten by the crumb making bug, but I do enjoy seeing what other people create with them. Amazing stuff!

  7. These are amazing! I like them touching with no sashing too. I don't know if I could do this, being such a square person and all.
Keep the cold outside, and your backside warm! Hope your back starts feeling better. Don't fall down running to the mailbox for squishies.

  9. How lucky can you get if you must have a bad back, comfy only at your sewing machine! Yikes, take care of yourself. From one who knows...

  10. So sorry about your back but how lucky can you get being able to sit and sew; most people end up propped on the couch with the remote watching television!

I really, really like the crumb blocks; you should make a whole quilt with them. It would truly be one-of-a-kind.

  11. I like too! I hope the back improves quickly, although it is a good excuse for you to do what you like to do. Perhaps it can get better in a couple of days.

  13. WOOHOO! I love your crumb blocks! They are super cute and fabulous. :) BUT.. sorry that your back has you down and out. At least you are able to sit at the sewing chair right? Get well soon!

  14. Oh no - quick get some fat quarters for padding - get some strips and make a sling - get that quilter up and moving around again - stat!

One time I hurt my neck shoveling two truck loads of mulch and was unable to sit anywhere except at the dining room table - leaning forward on my elbows - so I embroidered two sets of State Bird and Flower blocks and quilted another bed size quilt - I was certainly glad when I could sit in regular chairs again - I got rather sick of that table.

Hope your back is better much sooner!

  18. So sorry your back is under the weather, but I LOVE your remedy!! Your "made fabric" is AWESOME. Lord knows I use the same guidelines for saving stuff. You are so creative with how your piece the crumbs together...my eyes are drawn over and over the blocks, looking for your clever piecing patterns. Good luck with healing your back!

    In stitches,
    Teresa :o)

  28. So sorry about your back pain! It's the worst. I once fell off a ladder and it was agony - but time, heat, and rest will heal it up.

I'm feeling very guilty about the crumbs I toss out now. Yours are so wonderful together!

  29. Hope your back is better by now! I love your crumb quilt! I love scrappy too, and I have plenty of crumbs, I really need to start sewing them together, I guess. I've been making strip quilt blocks and when you trim them, you get lots of crumbs. Oh No! The scraps do seem to multiply and I never get rid of them - I doubt I can get them all used up in my lifetime!
