Ok..ok....it's a SCARF....yes, it's a neck scarf. Joann over at Pieceful Afternoon pondered and pondered as to what it might be and after many days of 'mulling' it over she finally guessed it!! *LOL* I actually think she may have lost some sleep over it.....way to go Joann! I made this scarf for my friend Gail. You know, the one sending me all of the 'goodie' packages. I absolutely LOVE the color combination.
Since Gail has sent me such colorful fabrics and not to mention the wildly colorful log cabin table runner she included in one of the packages...I thought..well, she must like color.....SO, here ya go Gail! I decided to cut odd angles and insert irregular sized tiny polka dot strips to add more flare. I like it!
To finish it off I added a tiny label with a sweet little silver crown stitched on it (click to enlarge). The label came from one of my grandfather's vintage ties. I just think it gives it a 'prissy-er' look don't you? On most of the women scarves I try to make a prettier flair to the bottom edge as well, I don't like the just 'blunt' straight across finish. A lot of my scarves do not have batting or any extra thickness added. My scarves are mostly a fashion statement than for extra warmth, but I am surprised at how well they do that too. Where we live we don't get very many snow blowing, sub zero type of weather. So.....there you go Gail...enjoy!!
Oh I love this scarf...it was worth the wait! I'm sure Gail will love it. Can't wait to see what the next peek turns out to be!
ReplyDeleteThat scarf is beyond words gorgeous!!!! and what a neat idea of using that vintage label. I'd have never thought of saving labels like that but I'm sure gong to from now on :)
ReplyDeleteOkay.. another sneak preview? It looks like you're making a pillow decorated with pin wheels??
Looks like you may have started a new fad...using vintage tie labels. What a totally unique and creative idea. I can't imagine Gail not LOVING the scarf! Gorgeous. I especially love the polka dots on the angle. I want to see the sneak peek...soon?
ReplyDeleteI am in love with that scarf!! It's absolutely gorgeous! Never thought of making my own, but I think I'll give it a try. Now that I've learned the European way of doubling and slipping the ends through the loop, I've started wearing scarves a lot.
ReplyDeleteI love the scarf and what you did with the label. This is so colorful!

Lucky Gail! I know she will love it, the best part is I can some sun shinning through your window on that bright and happy scarf, lucky you!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a brilliant and creative idea. The new sneek peek looks interesting.
ReplyDeletePretty scarf! WHAT is that sneak peak????? I am in love with the fabric!!! You are such a tease!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun scarf...and the sneak peek is beautiful...love those red fabrics...and I see a yo-yo too!
ReplyDeleteI am sure that Gail will get lots of use out of the scarf. I know that she will also get a few compliments. I never would have guessed that it was a scarf.
ReplyDeleteNever tease me with red fabric! I can't wait now!
Beautiful scarf! I like the colors of the fabric in the next sneak peak. I'm not sure what it is going to be but....it looks like a pillow with very large yo-yos on the top. It gave me a fun idea too. If you make large yo-yo's and sew the edges down to a pillow top and use a ribbon to close the yo-yo...you could put little stuffed hearts (or love notes) in the yo-yo's :)
ReplyDeleteThat scarf is absolutely amazing. I have never seen anything like it. Although I do have some of that very fabric.
ReplyDeleteYour sneak peek is killing me! I see yo-yos.. that's for sure.
Lovely, lovely scarf - and such a clever girl you are for using that old tag from the tie - what a trendsetter!!
ReplyDeleteNow STOP doing sneek peeks - I am guessing pillows - scarves - pillowcases - aprons - napkins - dishtowels - potholders - garment bags - tablerunners - tablecloths - shoe horns - sewing machines - cans of pens - frogs - beds - - - now see what you've gone and done - driven me completely and unbelieveably crazy - and I don't know if I can find my way back?????
Really - I think it is a pillow or an apron.
I love it! And the tie label is such a great touch! You are so creative and I'm sure Gail will love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely way to say 'thank you'...I'm sure she will treasure it.
ReplyDeleteAs for me, although I didn't loose any sleep over it, I still didn't have a clue.
Your pattern is beautiful and you should seriously think of putting it together and selling it. I would buy one...I have a LOT of girls who would love a scarf like that for NEXT Christmas...*LOL*
Yep, here we are just begining Feb. and I'm thinking Dec....
With my lot, and after what I went through the weeks before last Christmas, believe me it's not too early.
Terrific work and beautiful colors...just those words say "Belinda made this" :))

What a wonderful scarf! Love it!
ReplyDeleteWhat kind of fabrics did you use in it?
What a lovely idea for a scarf. I like your cola wave at the bottom. :-) Ooo interesting sneak peak!
ReplyDeleteI love a reveal. That scarf is spectactular. I love it. Really, it is so different and attractive. Now the new sneak peek - wowie. I want whatever that is.
ReplyDeleteMy friend just told me about your blog. And, she was right, it's great. Your scarf is lovely. Can you tell me...are you using strips of fabric or is that ribbons? What did you use on the back? Thanks for sharing your ideas!
