Stars....

Since I seem to be 'out of the groove' for getting too involved in any particular project I thought I would get in here and finally get some strips cut....you know, actually CUT some of this fabric I keep stacking up. It wasn't long before I was 'in the groove' making some more of these wonderful little stars. These are about 4" x 4" finished size using 1 1/2" strips cut into 1 1/2' squares. They are tiny, but I love them tiny and the wilder the fabric the better! There are a few mixed in from a previous post, but I assumed you wouldn't mind seeing them again.

Can anyone guess what this might be?? I know the fabrics look ugly and boring, It's only a sample, and the red thread is just basting that will come out. I had to do a sample to see how this goes together and to see if I even wanted to do it. This is one of those projects ( if I decide to take this mission ) that might take me FOREVER!!!....BUT....It's so cute and I've never seen anything like it! These pieces measure about 3 1/2" x 3 1/2".

OK....I know you are thinking "enough with the santas already"!! Sorry, but I have a few more to feature. These are also the plastic type. The one holding the green tree plugs in and lights up..cute! The larger santa on the reindeer I got a couple of years ago at a garage sale for .50 cents. Can you believe it!!?? I think the smaller santa on the reindeer looks a little weird. I don't know why his face is all red...??
Hey, and Nedra at Cactus Needle has a nice santa collection too!

I would like to take this time also to thank some gals for including me in some play-alongs and some awards. Melanie at Jelly Bean Angel ....Triciah at All Things Crafty and Carrie P. over at A Passion for Applique. Thank you all for your thoughtfulness and for thinking of me. It's nice to be included. I know this is a long overdue thank you and if I have overlooked anyone I am so sorry, it is not intentional................MERRY MERRY and HO HO HO YA'LL

  1. I'm trying to guess what the one quilt is going to eventually look like. I do love those stars.
I only showed a few of my Santa's. Maybe I'd better show a few more. I have a whole shelf of them.

  2. I LOVE your little stars. I'm thinking 2009 is going to be my year to make a lot of doll quilts and smaller scale projects. I need to start using up my scraps.

Your clamshells look like a little hand applique project - can't wait to see what they become.

  3. Gah! I LOVE your stars!!! Oh, my to-do list is getting waaaay too long. And I'm glued to my computer so I am not getting any quilting done. This is getting bad... verrry bad!

I also adore polka dot fabric. Some day I want to make that piece o' cake quilt with all the polka dot fabrics on it. I believe someone linked to it from the B&W Challenge. Also, I think I am going to have to order from Jane. I took a quick look at her e-bay store yesterday and was really impressed with her prices and fabric selection.

    Nice to meet you!

  12. Great little stars...do you plan to make a whole quilt top with them....or just use them for accents?

I just received my book from Bonnie Hunter,
Scraps, & Shirtails' ....Wow.... what a great book to use up your scraps. She uses a lot of Maverick Stars as corner blocks between the blocks and on the corners of the outer bands... Very nice... You gotta get that book!

Can't wait to see those clam shells done.... if you can do it I may try...notice the key word is TRY.

I have some orphan blocks and I think I will make the cat his very own little quilt, I may even sprinkle a small amount of catnip between the layers.Maybe it will get him off of ours?..This is an experiment I will let the rest of you cat lovers know if it works...

Belinda as always, whatever you make will be wonderfull, it always is...*lol*...no presssure right?....

  13. The little stars are wonderful! I really like them. You've given me a few ideas...
I recognise the clamshell. It will indeed be challenging but it will be a very unique piece. And it's always good to have a hand project ready to go.

  20. Love the stars!! I like mixing prints and patterns in some of my quilts as well. I made a morning star quilt with some of the ugliest fabric, but the quilt was a true beauty when finished. Here's a link to it.

  22. Love your stars! The one in the upper left (turquoise with black&white dots) is my favorite! Do you have a plan for these, or are you just playing??

I have a little clamshell project going too. It's to practice machine applique blind-stitch. I have yet to actually get it to the sewing machine though. And I've been "working" on it for years. One of these days maybe I can get to it. I hope yours goes much faster!

  23. ooo.. love the stars.
ok.. I did not look at any of the other commetns yet.. but i'm going to guess. Is the new quilt something like a clam shell pattern? If so.. I have never seen anything like it either done in applique, and I think it will be super! But whatever it is.. now i can't wait to see. so don't get out of the groove and put it away and leave us hanging!
LOL.. my verification word is "cow nices"
