Christmas Misc....

Christmas time just doesn't seem like the right time to be digging through storage tubs and boxes.......because all I'm really doing is making messes to clean up ( and who needs more of that ).....BUT, look what I found.....a 1967 December issue of Better Homes and Gardens! I really do like the interesting colorful cover, don't you?

The little fabric Christmas trees Nanette has made for her blogaversary for one of her giveaways are just adorable! I couldn't wait to try some out! Isn't it amazing that these four unusual shapes could turn into......................

THIS !!!...........I LOVE this cute little tree... 'Little' is the key word here. I should have heeded Nanette's advice about blowing up the pattern some....ooooooo....this one is cute, but tiny. The interfacing I used was too light as well. I had some heavy type and now I wish I had used that one....and as usual.....I wanted it really country handmade-ish, so I decided to add the blanket stitch around the edges 'by hand'......WELL, I won't do that again.......took me FOREVER! Since I had used the lighter weight interfacing my sewing machine was going to chew the edges up. Anyway.... practice makes perfect I guess. Amanda over at Busy Little Quilter made some too, and hers are sooooo cute. You must go see ! Here are the links to the tree pattern if you want to make some of your own....Whip Up Blog or The Small Object Blog.

  1. I loved the old Better Homes and Gardens. Good job on Nanette's tree. When I read her post on the flour sack dish towels I knew I had to make those too. That will be today's project. She is an inspiration, isn't she?

  4. Your tree is adorable! I love the fabrics you chose, and the hand stitching is wonderful. I can imagine that was a lot of hard work; time consuming, too.

I want to enlarge the pattern, too.

Thanks for mentioning my blog, too. It's funny how from one simple idea turned into something everyone is talking about. That's the fun of blogging and the reason I love it so much!

  8. I saw those little tree on Nanete's blog and thought how cute! I think you should make some more just like that! LOL! Blanket stitch and all.
Did the magazine have any good crafts in it? I love those ones from the 60's and 70's. We would have been about 10! :-D

  9. I think the tree looks so cute- you could try blowing the pattern up in stages to have a set of different sized trees. Wee Wonderfuls did some similar trees last year, so you could even mix and match the patterns. :-) (they are on my little dresser pic this year- if you want to see how they came out.

    Lovely job Belinda.

  12. NOOOOooo......I can't take it.....!!
There is always something new and too cute for words coming out everyday. Where am I going to find the time to make these and I DO have to make at least 3. Everything looks better in groups of threes, or is that trees....*lol...
I think I will take your advice Belinda and make mine just a wee bit bigger. I was looking at your cutting board and figuring your measurments for the bottom tier. Maybe add an inch or two.

I have so much to do... Maybe I will make mine into "Valentine Trees". Start a new custom. Make them red & white, hang little hearts on them...I think it would be just as cute... I'm sure I could find some time between here and Feb....*lol*

  13. Well it is just like you Belinda to take an idea and make it the cutest ever. I love that. The tree is cute as can be. There is definately something to be said for hand work. And it shows. It is darling. That magazine looks like it could be today. The colors and design have all come back around. I thought it was a modern magazine and not only that the line about homemade Christmas is perfect. So true too.

  14. I saw a similar tree on some one else's blog. It is just one cone so I think, I prefer yours.

All this rummaging around in boxes finding "stuff". Are you looking for somewhere to hibernate LOL!
