FINALLY!!!!

YES!!!!......FINALLY....to lots of things. I have been having a refrigerator and freezer calamity that has been going on for over a week!! ( and it is still not over, but partly my fault because I won't decide on which new one I want...too many options ) I finally got back to my sewing room this weekend and I FINALLY decided on sashing for my boxy star quilt that has been in limbo. I really like how this is turning out.

It's amazing when I look at each block at how many memories come with each piece of fabric scrap. The little dotted cornerstones are vintage from my grandmothers stash.....still stiff with heavy sizing. There is no telling how old this fabric is. This square includes scraps from garments my grandmother made for my mother. The fabric on the left at the bottom....gold with turquoise....I have the actual garment from this scrap that my mother wore in high school. It's a blouse with a very full skirt....it's cute!

This square includes some scraps from garments I made for my daughter when she was about 5 or 6 yrs. old as well as some from the one and only log cabin/scrap swap I have ever participated in. I am going to REALLY LOVE and ADORE this quilt!!!

  2. Great quilt. Love all the scraps you used and the boxy stars. One of these days I have to get in an organize my scraps. Never seem to get to it because I always get sidetracked into making something.

  3. Very, very nice Belinda. I've admired the boxy star for a long time but there always seems to be something else that MUST be done before I start this. Right now I literaly have 6 quilts in the making, and I seem to get to each one at least once a week. OOPS!!! I lie, there a 3 charity quilts due at the end of Sept. that have to be machine quilted ans bound. But hey! I got to the end of Sept. right? Watch me put in all nighters 3 days before their due, ha ha ha :cD

    Smiles across the miles...:c) Fran

  4. Hia Belinda- how special that you have your mother, gran and daughter immortalised in this quilt. Is there any of you too to complete the picture? Do sign it too and write something down for the future generations of your family so they understand the significance.

I would love to know the names and more about heirloom quilts that I have seen, but barely any were signed which is sad.

  5. wonderful. You could do a wordy border and say things like "Mom's High School Skirt," "Daughter's dress" then include a swatches of the fabrics if you have some left. And/Or Scraps of Our Lives and include your names... I think that would be incredible. You might want to try practising the words first with fabrics that AREN'T meaningful.
