FINALLY!!! Yes, just this VERY MINUTE (no kidding) I finished this top. I must say I really struggled toward the end with this one.
There were 9 BORDERS!!!
To date, this is the largest top I have sewn!
It measures 84"x84".
Yep, I did a post a while back titled I HATE BORDERS!! Well,
now I REALLY hate them. HA!
Maybe when I get over all the borders I had to deal with I'll decide I like it. It's
not that I don't like it, it's just pretty bright and more
colorful in person than the photo on the pattern.
It truly is a miracle this thing is even REMOTELY square. This top had
problems and issues (me being the main issue) from the 'git go'.
This was a BOM featured several years
back on The Quilt Show.
But....looking above at the dreamy photo.....I'm beginning to feel a mother's love.
Enjoy some of my process photos below.
LOTS of STARS to sew.
LOTS of trimming and snipping.
(hope the birds don't poop on this while I have it out here on the lawn)
LOTS of paper piecing.
LOTS of HST'S.
LOTS of ironing.
Only 3 more borders to go here. I nearly rebelled and flung it to the floor on this day!
But......I didn't.....and I finished it......
and now
I can go back to working on ANOTHER BOM I have started.
OH NO!!!! Just as I was about to hit the publish button I saw
a BIG mistake sewn in. DARN! DARN! DARN!
I just CAN NOT believe I didn't see it before now.....
*SIGH*
This quilt is wonderful! I love it! And I especially love the 4 'quirkies' you have on it! They make it totally fun! I love it! Well done!
ReplyDeletewow wow wow...this is a beautiful quilt
ReplyDeleteW O W -- what beebee said!9 borders?? Way to stick with it!It's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteNot sure where your mistake is, but this is a gorgeous quilt! I'm sure you'll fall in love with it all over again after the frustration wears off.:)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilt, Belinda. Can you believe how those errors that seem so glaring once you find them, can just fly under the radar during the creation process?
ReplyDeleteDo you think you can fix it by just unstitching around it and not taking off the borders?
Your quilt is very beautiful, so fresh, so modern - and so much work. Congratulations!
ReplyDeleteHugs - Lurline.
It's beautiful! Love the bright fun colors! So glad you stuck with it.
ReplyDeleteOhhh it is so pretty - I can't believe you don't like it (I like it). Don't you just hate it when the boo boo shows up and you now know that it is there - drat.
ReplyDeleteI don't see a mistake. This is wonderful!
ReplyDeleteWhat a BEAUTY!
ReplyDeleteThat's a LOT of borders and a LOT of pieces in the quilt, but it's beautiful! I saw your mistake after you mentioned it. If you leave it there, and fold the quilt just so, nobody will ever know! ;0)
ReplyDeleteIt is a real testament to your stick-with-it-ness. I would go the whole hog and fix the little mistake. Surely only 4 smallish seams at the problem involved? You'll never be able to enjoy it otherwise. I think you're lucky you found it before quilting!! It will be worth it, such a pretty quilt.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations on an (almost) finish! Having made Star Crazy, I too know how much work it was. But, I LOVE LOVE LOVE it! Good job. Once you turn that one square around it will be absolutely beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful quilt - I love the bright colors. I don't see any boo boos....... did you fix them already?
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is just beautiful. It took me a while to find the oops- but I should have known where to look. Those little suckers are always the culprits.
ReplyDeleteI just finished a version of this same quilt and posted about it on Sunday! I added another border to make it bedsize. And I switched out the white background for black. Yours looks great!
ReplyDeleteThis is gorgeous! I am so thankful you saw the oops area. I didn't want to be the barer of bad news. I was scared, they say they shoot the messenger ya know.
ReplyDeleteI have found that on some quilts Its a couple of weeks before I can embrace and enjoy them after I finish them... (usually the ones I had to fight with)
ReplyDeletewowza, woohoo! congrats. I see no mistakes - ignore it!
ReplyDeleteNine borders and it's square? You win!! My first thought when I saw the quilt photo is that the colors are so clear and they fairly sparkle. So bright is a good thing. Beautifully done.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations ! That's a load of work, and a beauty for your trouble !
ReplyDeleteIt is aggravating, but, yes, you can take out sections of seams and fix the mistakes. The one big one is a must, but the three little four-patches might slip by unnoticed. I think I'd leave atleast one of them as my humility patch.
It is really beautiful. I don't notice any mistakes---I think a mistake or two show it wasn't made by a machine in China, so they are actually a bonus.
ReplyDeleteI'm so glad you didn't quit! It is an amazing quilt!!
ReplyDeleteI'm not a border lover either, except when other people do it!!!! This is a wonderful quilt, flipped section and all. Congrats on a finish to this BOM's long journey to A Real Quilt.
ReplyDeleteI love it. That must have taken hours to do and it would have given me a few grey hairs. I have a couple of "am I ever going to finish this" projects. So satisfying when you do get something finished that has caused you grief.
ReplyDeleteWOW! Your quilt is amazing! I have a love/hate relationship with borders--I love the finished look, hate making them!
ReplyDelete(Sure didn't see a mistake in your quilt)
It is just amazing!! So many triangles to sew! You did a beautiful job with the borders and these colors add so much sparkle to the stars :)
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh, Belinda, this is fantastic!! How beautiful! And what a lot of work! I'll bet you love it now. 9 Borders has to be some kind of record - congrats on sticking with it! You get a great big gold star for this one!
ReplyDeleteSo, did you get the boo-boo fixed? I hope the fix went easily and quickly, and now you're in love with it - it deserves your love!
I've never attempted anything like this. Bravo. What is the most incredible is how it lays flat. I couldn't even get my row by row (lori holt) quilt to lay flat. Sad. Love yours though. This is a true "one of" for a lifetime.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteits a beautiful quilt, mistake and all. I have done that so many times and know how you feel. But it really is very pretty just as is.
ReplyDeleteThat is soooooo beautiful! I am in awe.
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful! I have always loved this pattern and your flimsy is just perfect! Congrats on pushing through and finishing all the borders!
ReplyDeleteIn stitches,
Teresa :o)
Oh, this is worth every hair pulling, foot stomping minute, I kid you not. I love it, even the flub--that had to be studied to find--it is a wonderful quilt!
ReplyDelete:-}pokey
Wow ! a beautiful quilt.
ReplyDeleteQuilt groetjes Anja.
OMG! I love this quilt! And the colors!
ReplyDeleteПрекрасная работа!!!
ReplyDeleteThe quilt is beautiful. I saw the mistake right away and kept scrolling down to see if you had noticed it. You did, at the end. Good. Did you fix it yet?
