Those of you who follow my blog may remember I'm not much for/sold on Machine quilting. I like all the ones I see in blogland. Most I see turn out just beautiful.
I'm just a Hand Quilting type of gal. But as Mr. Browndirt reminds me quite often, "there comes a time when you are going to have to get some of them quilted." He also insists I take some
out to a longarmer to get them done, but I want to do them all myself.
I guess that's why I have 18 quilt tops lounging upstairs across a bed. Some have been sandwiched and basted for a while now, patiently waiting.....for me......to make a decision.
I'm going to get this one finished and I must say, Mr. Browndirt is most excited!!! He offered to fix me a sandwich.....to keep up my strength. Ha!
So........here goes!!!!
This is the quilt from my previous post.
You go girl... Say yes to the sandwich and give it your best shot!!
ReplyDeleteYour photo is making me nervous! Your pins are in the way! Grid/straight line quilting is great for many quilts and it looks fabulous. Way to go.
ReplyDelete..LOLOL....don't be scared Sharon....I remove them before I get to them!!
ReplyDeleteDon't worry........quickly finished quilts can become quite addictive !
ReplyDeleteGo, go, GO !
you can do it! You'll be amazed how fast it goes. I love hand quilting too, but I won't live long enough to hand quilt each project -
ReplyDeletegood luck!
Oh, it's going to be gorgeous! You'll be so excited over how it turns out, you won't be able to wait to get to the next one!
ReplyDeleteIt's looking beautiful! Enjoy that sandwich! ;)
ReplyDeleteHow wonderful you have a supportive husband! You will do great & may even come to enjoy it!
ReplyDeleteGood for you! But I'm with you... am not convinced that machine quilting larger quilts is my cup of tea. I don't mind small ones, but big ones just feel like a "rasslin' match" to me. And once I start one, I ask myself why I thought this was a good idea. But I do like that top you made, and having it finished will feel very satisfying I'm sure!

ReplyDeleteYour quilt is just gorgeous. I get really excited when I finish a quilt top because the next thing is machine quilting. I really love that part of it. Can't wait to see what you do with it!
ReplyDeleteI know what you mean but there are some quilts that need machine quilting love. You will love it when it's done and it's time to put the binding on.
ReplyDeleteGood luck! You'll be glad to have it finished. I love hand quilting best, too.
ReplyDeleteGlad you are getting some of those tops finished. Love the quilt.
ReplyDeleteI'm a hand quilter from way back--and my mother still doesn't acknowledge what I do on my machine as quilting. : ) But there are far too many quilts I want to make to ever believe I could get them hand quilted in my lifetime. I will still hand quilt now and then, but my machine quilting time is getting to be more and more fun. However--I did buy a midarm. I couldn't stand the narrow harp space.
ReplyDeleteA gal's gotta do what a gal's gotta do. I've started machine quilting, but only so I can clear the decks before starting on something new.
ReplyDeleteNothing too adventurous. Just horizontal lines, but OMG doesn't it take for ever! And the shoulders! Ouch!
So far, so good! Keep up your strength! Get up and stretch. Relax your muscles as you sew. Take an aspirin if it hurts. Maybe a nice stiff drink would have the same result. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteI would be thrilled if my husband suggested I take my quilts out to the long armer. Good for Mr. Brown Dirt! I also admire your determination to do it yourself. I am usually not very brave in that department.
ReplyDeleteI'm in your corner, you can do it...just think of snuggling under this one before summer is over. (Don't look, I'm eating your sandwich....)
ReplyDelete:-]pokey
Ha! What a great post. I love it. Mr. Brown Dirt is awesome for keeping up your strength.
ReplyDeleteGood for you at least trying to quilt by machine! I'd happily send all my quilts out to be quilted if I could afford it. And how nice of hubby to make you a sandwich! What a guy! LOL
ReplyDeleteSuch ambition - but I know you can do it. Here is one thing we don't have in common - I knew I'd find one thing someday - I do NOT like to machine quilt - I barely like to machine piece, rather do hand applique and embroidery. I send my tops to the long arm quilter - slowly - but surely I will get the last 7 quilted by Peggy.
ReplyDeleteI'd like a sandwich too - even though I'm not machine quilting.
Hooray for you and the understanding and encouraging Mr Brown Dirt. I just can't bring myself to send quilts out, I'd feel like I didn't make the whole thing and I lose some sort of ownership.
ReplyDeleteI guess I'm your opposite--I'll never be a hand quilter of any consequence! Glad you'll be keeping up your strength thanks to Mr. BD :)
ReplyDeleteYou go girl! Can't wait to see it.
ReplyDeleteI love doing the binding! It's a great finish to all that work. I can sit and sew in front of the television.
ReplyDeleteI just had to come and meet the Mrs. Brown Dirt that inspired Pieceful Afternoon's cute little dolly!
ReplyDeleteOh wow, you are so brave! The only ones I've ever quilted myself are the tiny baby size, or wall hanging size ones.
And no I am not a stalker.
ReplyDeleteI prefer to hand quilt, also. That is what quilting means, right? Otherwise it is piecing. "Im a piecer" some say. And I actually have heard that! LOL!
My husband also encourages to do some machine quilting. "Because it is an art in and of itself" he says. I know what he is really thinking!
And I machine quilt on occasion, I suppose it has it's place... LOL ;)
