Over a year ago I bought this kit from Piece O Cake for just 30.00 dollars!! Can you believe it!!! I was drawn to this pattern for it's old fashion look and feel AND for the great price! It also looked like an easy one for me to start with.
I am using the Piece O Cake way by just needle turning.....BUT... I have seen some other very interesting ways to do hand applique that I am soooo anxious to try! I haven't pressed any of the blocks yet and I hope all those little pin holes will disappear....aarrrgghh! I am using the tiny sequin pins they suggest!
These blocks are 20 inches! I must say it has been difficult for me at times getting all that fabric wadded up in one hand so I can keep it flat/smooth and easy to stitch. I have come to realize that solid fabrics show every little flaw as well.
Here are just a few of my Hand Applique Hereos:
Susan from SueGarman.blogspot.com
Janet from Quiltsalott.blogspot.com
Teresa from Fabrictherapy.blogspot.com.......Teresa has a fabulous 3 part tutorial on her process....go HERE to read about it!
Carrie from Apassionforapplique.blogspot.com
Go check out these gals and see the FABULOUS work they do!!! They are AMAZING!
You are a very brave girl. I have yet to jump from the high board, but one day I must. I really want to do some of Gwen Marston's designs.

You are over half way done! I am in awe...You confirmed my first thought...I bet she hand quilts this too...
ReplyDeleteIt will be beautiful.
On the rare occasions when I have done this, I (sometimes) will put my first finger on top to help hold things together and still. There is a wad of fabric, so that might not work at all.
I love this pattern, and your blocks look great. The Piece o' Cake method for applique is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteYour hand applique is amazing. I have started learning/self teaching hand applique just a few months ago and have found it quite relaxing. You are going to have an heirloom quilt when you are all finished :)
ReplyDeleteI saw the picture on my blog list and thought "if she hasn't been blogging and doing applique, I'm gonna be so impressed" And so you are! I LOVE applique, isn't Janets work amazing? Did you see her bird today? Anyways, welcome to the world of hand applique.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful work!
Your blocks look just wonderful. I'm really impressed if your teaching yourself how to do this. I think you need to come over and teach me because I have such a mental block over hand appliquing.
ReplyDeleteWonderful - and Impressive. Great job, and I love the price. So good to see you here again.
ReplyDeleteYour block is looking stunning!
ReplyDeletehave you tried the back basting way? I have a link on my blog. I am a lover of the back basting way.
Your applique looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGood job! the ladies would be proud :)
ReplyDeleteCongratulations! You are doing an excellent job and I think the pattern you chose is wonderful!!
ReplyDeleteI like the old fashioned look too--yummy! Handwork is very satisfying but sometimes the fiddly-ness can be daunting. Good for you persevering! Looking beautiful.
ReplyDeleteLooks like you're doing a great job on the hand applique. You go girl!
ReplyDeleteYour quilt is going to be beautiful! I don't like working with plain fabrics either. They're very unforgiving.
ReplyDeleteOh, I am so proud of you. Your blocks look great for a beginner. You go girl.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am so honored to on your list. Thanks so much.
