Love the black and white binding/edges......THANKS GAIL (no blog).....this project IS FROM some wonderful LOG CABIN batik SQUARES GAIL sent me ( see here)......I cut the length GAIL SENT into three pieces....I sewed up the BATIK STRIPS GAIL SENT to make up the back of these wonderful placemats!! These will certainly brighten up our dining!...LOL..I hope you don't think I messed them up too bad Gail! The ONLY THING I CONTRIBUTED to this project was the 'practice' machine quilting!! Oh.....what an adventure that was to figure out!! I started trying to learn the bubbles/pebbles about a month ago.....that was a hair puller but my FAVORITE!!! I finally took the BSR off and just free motioned the rest. I learned that using the BSR on Batik fabrics can be a little more difficult to machine quilt than maybe other fabrics! I can thank MAGNOLIA BAY for helping me figure that out!
My other help and inspiration for learning this machine quilting came from the wonderful ladies at these blogs...FREE MOTION QUILTING BLOG......CRAZY MOM QUILTS......and HANDMADE BY ALISSA BLOG. I am truly amazed at these girls talents and I thank them for being so generous with their videos and tutorials!!!!!
While learning to use my sewing machine to quilt was fast and a wonderful challenge and learning experience......I must say......I still love HAND QUILTING the best!!!!
These are just so gorgeous - perfect to brighten up those dark winter days that are coming!
ReplyDeleteThey are fabulous, I do believe you have the machine quilting licked, great ideas and the textures are yummy. Time for a big quilt?
ReplyDeleteWow, Belinda, those are great! I love the B&W binding, too -- and your "practice" looks really good. What a great idea to practice on those.
ReplyDeleteOh man please do not use that hot pad as a hot pad...it's too gorgeous to get scorched and dirty from the oven!
ReplyDeleteYour machine quilting is WOW...beautiful. I would never use these...EVER. I think you should hang them as mini wall art!
ReplyDelete~Karen~
What a great bunch of MQ examples! I have recently found the link with 365 examples of quilting - oh mym MORE eye candy. Don't ya just love to run your fingers over the designs?
ReplyDeleteBummer to know the BSR discriminates towards batiks! Love your colorful projects. I know first hand that your quilting is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteJust lovely! The machine quilting is just brilliant!

Yea, Belinda! Your quilting is looking wonderful! And no, you may not use that first one (or any of the others!) as hot pads! That stone quilting is stellar! Keep up the good work! I'm with Elaine, don't you just love to touch it?! It is interesting how the BSR reacts to changes in fabrics as one quilts along. It seems to have some issues with any of the tightly woven cottons. I can usually adjust by adjusting my stitch length...but on quilts with a variety of fabrics, there are a few glitches here and there. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteYour machine quilting is really coming along! My favorite is the Swirls / skwiggles / loopie loops
ReplyDeleteI am hoping to spend time this winter working on the many new machine quilting ideas I have been reading about on the internet.
Looks like your practicing has really paid off! The hot pads and placemats are very nice.
ReplyDeleteVery impressive. I love all of your designs and your blocks. Would you say the trick is just to practice practice? The black and white binding just makes those blocks.
ReplyDeletelook at all those beautiful quilting designs! what a wonderful way to explore quilting! enjoy using your practical little quilts!
ReplyDeleteWonderful projects - and good machine quilting. I'm thinking about making some placemats - though not sure I'd quilt them, but I love yours.
ReplyDeleteHi B!
ReplyDeleteI am so jealous of your machine quilting skills! I especially love the pebble quilting. I have been wanting to try this method out for sometime now. Maybe...maybe...maybe...I'll give it a try.
Have a good day!
OHHHHH la, la!!! Haven't you been having a great time!!!?? Such beautiful quilting!! I told you you would GET IT!! ;) :) The thing I find with machine quilting is that it is fast and for table mats and runners it holds up well when washed. I really love what you have learned to do so well!!! GAIL
ReplyDeleteWow.. who´s the wiz here then!!!!!??? NICE!! :o)
ReplyDeleteLove your machine quilting.. you have practiced hard..!
Keep quilting!!! :o)

great job belinda! it was good to read that you had to do some adjusting with your bsr as well...i finally figured out to change the presser foot pressure and that helped alleviate all the skipped stitches i was getting. it's definitely a learning experience!! thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWow! You have mastered lots of designs there - you must be so pleased! Lots of gorgeous, bright colours, too!
ReplyDeleteHugs - Lurline♥
Oh it all looks so good! So glad that you enjoyed the pebble quilting tutorial!

ReplyDeleteThanks for the links to the MQ blogs - I will check them out, even tho' it will be awhile before I can MQ again. Very interesting that you were happier w/o the BSR, just doing free-hand.
And what a wonderful, generous friend you have in Gail!
Love these festive placemats!!! Your machine quilting is coming along nicely.
ReplyDeleteBREATHTAKING!! I absolutely love, love, love your quilting!!

ReplyDeleteGreat job! I was wondering if you use anything special in the middle of the hot pad so the heat doesn't go through to whatever it is sitting on?

ReplyDeleteI love these placemats. They look amazing!!
ReplyDeleteWow! Those are hot pads fit for a QUEEN! You are livin' large!
ReplyDeleteBelinda you did a GREAT job machine quilting...I on the other hand am not so good at it, so I marvel at your accomplishment! I have tried and tried and well, lets just say, I am better at hand sewing(quilting) Hugs, Mary
