Quilting Progress...
I thought I would let you see some of my progress with my hand quilting that has been going on daily...all day long these last few weeks. Pictured is the back of the baby quilt I have been trying to get finished and the one I'm sure everyone is tired of hearing about. ( You can click on the pictures for a close-up view ) I am just in love with the harlequin diamond shapes.
This is truly my first try at hand quilting for real, and I'm loving it. Above you can see some little hearts with waves next to them. All that's left to finish is doing the borders. I have chosen to use three rows of fans as you can see on the bottom right for the borders. Anyone who hasn't seen the front of this quilt can check it out on my September 18 post.
I also finished quilting my "over 20 yr. old first time I ever pieced a quilt and didn't finish it way back when"!! This quilt was a nightmare on all counts. Some of the fabric is questionable and my needle had a hard time going through some of it......AUGH! I'm just glad it's finished!!
I also received a little package from Nanette at Freda's Hive !! Aren't my little goodies WONDERFUL?? You really shouldn't have Nanette, but I'm glad you did. See how she put a binding around the kitchen towel like a quilt. I love this!! I also love the little sachet she included that smells of lavender and the cute "fairy" tag I'm going to hang on one of my Christmas trees. Thanks Nanette!!!
Are you all going over grocery lists and recipes in your heads in preparation for Thanksgiving? We may have our dinner on the tailgate of my pickup out in the middle of the cotton patch........this might be interesting. We are usually through with harvest by Thanksgiving so I'm not sure what I need to be preparing for....another young farmer friend of ours wants to bring his cooker and cook out in the field.....he loves doing this.......so........I may just let him!!!! We'll see how the week goes!

I'm impressed with your hand quilting. I have only attempted a few and they were primitive. I usually have to take all my things to the nice ladies who use the long arm.
ReplyDeleteI love seeing the hand quilting on the back of your quilt - gorgeous. Nothing special for Thanksgiving here I'm afraid.
ReplyDeleteI am determined to learn to hand quilt this winter. Are you using a hoop? Yours looks great. Yes I have a long grocery list for Thanksgiving. I am not sure about eating on the tailgate of a truck though!
ReplyDeleteWonderful handquilting and congrats on finishing that long ago quilt.
ReplyDeleteYour possible thanksgiving plans sound great. The most adventurous we got with Thanksgiving was to eat outdoors on the brick patio the first year we moved to SoCal - we lived in the desert and it was 78 on Thanksgiving - we even had roses from our garden on the table. It was such a treat after living three years in Kansas where we were usually snowbound by Thanksgiving - and always cold in that constant wind.
oooo.. I was looking forward to seeing the back of your quilt. Absolutely lovely. I love those diamonds too.
ReplyDeleteI knew before I even read your words that those things came from the famous Nanette. :-) She is the sweetest.
And your "old" quilt.. it is fabulous!
Lovely hand quilting. That frame is obviously helping a lot.
ReplyDeleteYour Thanksgiving sounds great.
I'm impressed. That is gorgeous. I usually send mine out but I love the look of hand quilting. Nevermind appreciating all of the time that goes into it. Thanks for sharing.

I really like the hand quilting...it's turning out beautifully. As a sometimes hand quilter, I'm not tired of hearing about your baby quilt...they take a long time :)
ReplyDeleteWow, you hand quilting is looking so nice!
ReplyDeleteYour hand quilting is great. I like doing a cross hatch pattern on my applique quilts. Great way to fill in the background.
ReplyDeleteOh Thanks Belinda - I'm glad you like the little treats.
ReplyDeleteThanksgiving - in the field! Do take pictures!
I really am not a great hand stitcher/embroiderer. So hand quilting even stitches is beyond me at this stage of the game. Very nice job.
I'm making a list and checking it twice - going to shop today for the holiday. We are going to cook our turkey out in a barrel. The turkey will be hooked and hang inside over the fire/coals under it. The outside gets black and crispy and the intisde so incredibly tender and juicy. We've made chickens this way before but it will be our first turkey so I've got to find a small bird for the outside barrel cooking. My daughter got a turkey at work we'll cook in the house - should be fun.
You are doing a great job with the hand quilting. Good for you. I don't hand quilt often but when I do, I find it relaxing.
ReplyDeleteHey, if someone wants to cook for Thanksgiving.....girl....go for it.....LOL.....Take care. and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
your hand quilting is beautiful. i just finished my thanksgiving grocery shopping. i won't say how much a 26 pound turkey costs.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful, absolutely beautiful. You're great at this! I'm so impressed, I would not even attempt what you've done, congratulations and lucky baby. They better take good care of this.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving and as Rhonda said, if sombody else wants to cook, well why not?

I'm truly impressed that anyone would ever do hand quilting, it's such a beautiful art. I too am finishing up my very first pieced quilt. Mine is more than 15yrs old, and just the binding left to do (but I had a few patchy seams to fix up ~ seems I didn't stick to the 1/4" rule or even consistency!)
ReplyDeleteCheers!
Dionne
I have never tried hand quilting. You are making enticing.
ReplyDeleteyour hand quilting is quite good. Wish mine would have been so good when I started
ReplyDeleteYou've been busy!
ReplyDeleteYour hand quilting looks great, I'm really impressed.
I do hope I will live long enough to do such an art as you did! WOW.
Hia Belinda- wow that is amazing! Do you mark where you stitch 1st?
ReplyDeleteWell done for finishing your 20+ yr quilt. I bet that a weight off your mind now.
I like having unusual meals. Once I insisted on having a picnic on a roundabout. It was a quiet one in Rhayader in Wales. I wanted to cross it off my "Things to do before I'm 40" list.
Your work is beautiful. Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteI also do hand quilting, and I adore your work. Everything you do is so gorgeous!
