......LOL......Not your bare backs but your QUILT BACKS!! I have been busy lately sewing and designing up several quilt backs for some finished tops. The above photo is one I just finished. I was trying to use up as many of the scraps I had left over from the top...yeah...I know... some of you are thinking...yep....those are crappy scraps all right....But Mr. Brown Dirt likes it and I do too! As I worked on these I began to think about some of the neat quilt backs I have seen all over blogland and how fun it would be to have a place to show off our 'backs'! I know the main focus is about the FRONT of a quilt, but I thought it would be fun to see if some of you have some unusual or creative backs you would like to share with everyone. So hey...find a photo or take a photo of your quilt backs...post them on your blog...put a link back to my blog...then come back here and play along and add your name and your blog link to Mr.Linky (((be sure to type your blog link using the http:// )))....and after you link....Please leave a comment!
What a great back...I keep saying I'm going to use up things for the back but I haven't got there yet! I LOVE it!
ReplyDeleteYears and years ago, back when ................? quilts were made using muslin for the backs (or other plain pieces) I am sure it stemmed from the cost of the materials. Now there are so many lovely fabrics I am finding it useful to make reversible quilts so that when you "tire" of looking at one side the other is just as nice. It is also a great saving to use the remainders from the front ato piece a back! I really like what you have done with Mr.D"s quilt back!! GAIL
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat idea to use scraps for quilt backs..
ReplyDeleteI have to agree with the Mr.. I too like it.
Love your scrappy back. I will have to do something pieced for the back of the Lynette Anderson Christmas one I've just finished as nothing in my collection is big enough on it's own.
ReplyDeleteIt's on my list for when I get back.
you sooo don't want to see my back.........haha, I've never pieced a back, guess I should think about that huh
ReplyDeleteI've pieced one back - because it was the request of the person receiving the quilt - other than that I only do white backs.
ReplyDeleteHaving moved around the country a lot (and now through the internet) I've discovered that the backing sometimes is regional. When I lived in CA almost everyone used white backs - in WA they are almost always a patterned fabric or pieced - and in Kansas, always white. It is interesting to see what everyone is doing for their backs - and if they have a reason for doing it that way.
I think backing choices are also being influenced by the internet.
I'll find some backs and post - mine are all white - and you can see the quilting more that way I think.
Nice backing - and I say as long as you and Mr. BDC love it - then you make it how you like.
I love scrappy backs. I think the colors are fantastic!
ReplyDeleteI won't need Mr. Linky....but I will want to check out the backs that have been done.
ReplyDeleteYours is awesome!! mr. browndirt always knows what he's talking about!
I like the back of that quilt. I hate doing the backs of quilts so I just sew what I need for the back and be done. But I will have fun seeing others.
ReplyDeletelove the back of this one! I left a link and show one of mine today!
ReplyDeleteI also made that owl and gave your blog a plug!
I love this one! I always intend to make doll quilts to go with the big quilts I make.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea for a linkup. I'm off to go see the others.
I love pieced backs. Thanks for coming up with this great idea. I'll have to look around and see what I find.
ReplyDeleteI haven't pieced any cool backs for my quilts yet, but have decided to that on my next quilt as I have loved seeing all the neat backs of others (quilts that is).
ReplyDeleteJust found your blog by a comment you left on another one. Love it.
Thanks for the good idea of checking out pieced backs for quilts. I have quite a few quilts that I've done this way. I'm off to create my blog post on this topic...
ReplyDeleteI really like what you
ReplyDeletedid to your "back side"!
Great idea to link-up
and see what others have
done. I added my link.
I only have one photo
of a back. Who thinks
to take a pic of the back?
From now on I will!
Thanks Belinda!
Lin
I love to see pieced and scrappy backs. Why should just the front get all the fun?
ReplyDeleteBelinda, thanks for pointing out that I did have a quilt back to share. Just posted and linked to you. I look forward to seeing and sharing more quilt backs.
ReplyDeleteWhat a neat idea to use scraps for the back of the quilt. I just love the idea, and it is so colorful!
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing!

I've just linked to my blog. I love to add some piecing to a quilt back, even if it's just a 'racing stripe'. I think it makes the back more fun. Quite awhile ago there was a book out about 'back art'. I think that was really when I started paying attention to it. My quilt guild even had a space on the entry form for the quilt show to mention 'back art', so people at the show could see the backs too. Fun!
ReplyDeleteI think your 'back art' is fabulous! Good for you!
Just came by to say Congrats on your win from Bee in My Bonnet.
ReplyDeletewell, food for thought..I have done several pieced and fun backs, but the wedding quilt I made for us had the best..after looking I can't find a photo..so guess I need to take a photo and come back to add a link. Good suggestion to quilters...back art has been around for a while but not everyone has come across the idea-that is what blogs are great for-exploring new ideas.
ReplyDeleteOH! I want to join - give me a day or two to snap some photos!
ReplyDeleteFun idea Belinda!!
The back of my Texas A&M quilt ... I had extra blocks I wasn't sure where to use, and this is what the quilt told me to do. ;)
ReplyDeleteThe back of the T-shirt quilt made for my son.

Thanks to Lin for posting about your backing show. Luckily I'd posted the stitching on the back of my crazy quilt so I've added my link.
ReplyDeleteA previous person wrote about regional differences-my favorite is the strippy or bar backing often seen in Pennsylvania quilts.
