I have been sewing up these little Star Struck blocks like crazy!! This top picture is the 'HERS' version....that would be ME! I got really excited when I discovered this darker green polka dot went perfect for the sashing. I think it makes mine more fun! Go here to read how the 'His' and 'Hers' came about.
I have this cute little fold up table I cart out and set up right next to wherever I ended up laying out my quilt blocks. I pull out my 'trusty' nearly 30 year old Singer and away I go!!
'HIS'
For Mr. Brown Dirt I decided to sew his blocks together without sashing. I thought his throw should be simple with less whimsical features, more of a 'manly' look.
For 'HIS' I decided to border it with the matching polka dot with just a touch of the pumpkin color showing. And if you look closely, you'll see grapes and garlic. There are pears and bell peppers....just all kinds of fruit and veggies mixed in through out both of our quilts.
For 'mine' I think just more polka dots to border the edges. I put some of the pumpkin with it but decided I didn't like it!
When I finished sewing the blocks together it hit me.....what 'if' these look REALLY loud and out of place thrown around in my living room...???? I scooped them up and ran downstairs and threw them on the couches......and a pleasant surprise....the orange and bright greens didn't look that bad. So, I'm excited to be ahead of the game and will have some seasonal colors to use for fall. I may have to break down and machine quilt them in order to get them finished. WAH!! I don't think I could get them both hand quilted before Oct. It might be best since I KNOW these will be used. We'll just have to wait and see about that!!!

Ooh, I love them both!! With all of my bright quilts I have never used polka dots for sashing. It is spectacular and perfect.
ReplyDelete(shriek!) I looooove these!! I like yours the best. Those polka-dots rock!!!! But seriously, what an awesome idea to do a set of his/hers quilts. Clever!
ReplyDeleteI think they don't match your living room at all.
But they would look great in mine.
How neat, his and hers quilts. This is something I had never thought of. Hummmmm
ReplyDeleteHis and hers quilts are a fantastic idea!!! It's been a couple of years since I made my husband a quilt...I might have to put this on my list!
ReplyDeleteI think you could put that quilt out for St.Patricks Day too! Love the big polka dots.
ReplyDeleteI love them both...love the polka dot sashing...couldn't be more perfect.

I remember all thos blocks. I have to say I like the His with the pumpkin border and all but I love the hers with the polks dot sashing. They are just wonderful, what a ton of work you have put into them and it sure shows!!
ReplyDeleteOhh..you come a far bit on these blocks... love both versions.. :o)
ReplyDeleteI love them both;
ReplyDeleteNow a question. Is your trusty Singer by any chance a 1425? If so, go to my Wordpress blog and search for Singer. I think you and I use the same machine. yet another thing we have in common, as well as our sense of humour!
They are wonderful! Bonnie has the best ideas and the colors are awesome. Love the his/hers idea!
ReplyDeleteWow, love the polka dot sashing perfect choice.
ReplyDeleteOh my gosh I love them both and as you know I LOVE the polka dots!!! Such terrific colors combinations. You'll be all snuggily under those beauties for sure. I think his and hers are equally awesome.
ReplyDeleteWell done Belinda. I think they will look so complementary with one another and perfect for Autumn. Your polka dots are the perfect shade for them both.
ReplyDeleteTheir both beautiful and I too love the polka dot sashing
ReplyDeleteooooh polka dot sashing...brilliant!
ReplyDeleteNifty nifty!!!! Both are so cute - and how clever to make them coordinating but not matchy matchy - gives some great variety.
ReplyDeleteI'm off to bake bread - wish I could sew today - but baking is calling.
These two quilts a great and the polka on both of them really ties them together. I love the way you are doing them just a little bit different. Some fall theme flannel would be great since you will be using them.
ReplyDeleteThese are great quilts. I love the block. I am going to have to try it some time. The poka dot is adorable! I got my package today. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

ReplyDeleteWow, you've done a great job on these! I love the "his & hers" idea - they work together but his isn't too girly. And those polka dots are to die for! I love it! Those will be wonderful to snuggle under this fall.

ReplyDeleteGreat minds think alike. I've just been looking at my black and white dot thinking what great sashing it will make for a quilt. Now I am certain!
ReplyDeleteI love the star struck quilt and the poka dots sashing. Nice one!
ReplyDeleteTotally wonderful quilts. I love the way they go together but are still different. You did a great job!
ReplyDeleteUsing the same blocks with two different looks is terrific! I like the look of both, and it makes me want to make another star struck quilt.
ReplyDeleteOh, Belinda! I LOVE the polka dot!!
ReplyDeleteLove the sashing - & at first I thought, "What about the secondary design?"
