I'm such a purist about most things and I really had a hard time with it at first. I mean really, I was practically born with a needle in my hand and i grew up first sitting under the quiltframes with my dolls, threading needles for my mother, grandmother and aunts. I soon graduated to sitting around the frames and quilting too.
Soooo...it was really hard for me to think about my quilts being "run over" with a machine. But as you said, i knew i needed to change my mind especially when i started designing patterns...I needed a fast turnaround on projects and machine quilting was the only way to go.
I have since fallen in love with machine quilting...I still insist on the traditional handquilted patterns like feathered wreaths etc...but only machine quilted. It's a nice compromise and I'm happy now.
Your quilt is wonderful...front and back!
loriLori Holthttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12846499085276848184noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3041588012248537691.post-63427214684738111582009-12-06T16:09:05.558-06:002009-12-06T16:09:05.558-06:00Beautiful quilt. You should see my first machine quilted quilt - ick. Really good Belinda. And I'm going to try that trick with the dot and dash. I'm not surprised your DH was reluctant to part with it, even for a second :) I machine quilt because otherwise I would never finish a quilt, they would all remain quilt tops, but like you, I want it simple and not to interfere with the patchwork. Glad you have found that it is doable for you too! Try combining some machine and hand quilting, that's fun as well. A dust mask, eh? Good idea. I love the straight stitched line with the feed dogs up. I will do all over meandering (with hearts or stars) and loop da loop free motion on some lap quilts that are more subtle in their design. I like the pieced patterns to be showcased more than the quilting.Exuberantcolor/Wanda S Hansonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00064308660138307797noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3041588012248537691.post-1487098221234496562009-12-01T16:35:55.007-06:002009-12-01T16:35:55.007-06:00I totally understand where you're coming from....I totally understand where you're coming from...I machine quilt to lower that stack of tops in the closet but my heart is still with hand quilting.

I like your quilting choice for this quilt-its really looks great. My best friend has a long arm machine. She changes thread colors and does lots of extra quilting that doesn't look like a bed spread from a chain store. I agree that the quilting should enhance the quilt, but not take away from it.

I don't ever want a long arm. However, I always say that one of the greatest things about being a quilter is having a best friend with a long arm. She always says she loves having a friend with a computer (which she doesn't have).Busy Little Quilterhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11030043135910710800noreply@blogger.com
